Machine Shutting down

Please help me! My machine is shutting down after upgrading the software for my ATI Radeon All in Wonder 9000. I removed all of the previous software before installing the update. My machine specs are:

OS--- XP Professional
AMD Anthlon 2400+ Processor
2.00 GHZ

768 Meg of Ram

did a virus scan no viruses found!

Thanks,

the angel

Not yet.. I spoke with ATI and now I am getting a
The instruction 0x73dd1351 at referenced memory 0x00000004 memory could not be read.

What gives? Updated to the latest AGP drivers from Nvidia and still no resolution... The old drivers were giving me the same problem.

Uh oh... why are you messing with nVidia drivers on an ATI-chip based video card?

You did get the nforce drivers and not the detonator drivers? And you do have nforce chip board, right?

My confusion... I saw ATI video card and then nVidia drivers... thinking nVidia "video" drivers. My bad.

As Muno asked, you did get the nForce mobo drivers, rather than the video drivers....

Assuming you have an nForce mother board, and assuming the latest nForce drivers are installed, and you have available (not yet installed) the latest ATI drivers, my suggestion would be:
1) Uninstall the ATI drivers completely using Control Panel... Add/Remove Programs...
2) Go into Start... Settings... Control Panel... System... Hardware... Device Manager.... locate you video card and uninstall/remove that device.
3) Reboot, XP will load with default video enabled, and will tell you new hardware (your ATI video card) has been found "Would you like to install the drivers" click no and cancel out.
4) Let XP finish booting.
5) Disable any antivirus software you have running in background.
6) Now locate and install your ATI drivers, then reboot.

If you do not have an nForce mobo, you should never have installed nVidia drivers, whether they be nForce or AGP (video card drivers).

Let us know if this clears things up.
