Router Firewall too good?
I recently purchased a Netgear MR814 v2 Wireless Router, and it appears to be doing to good of a job with its built in firewall.
It won't let me do a few things I could before:
Direct connect on aim with a buddy- (doesn't effect the main computer, just the one with the wireless reciever)
BitTorrent
Any other p2p sharing program basically.
Im not sure if I need to open up ports, or how to go about doing that. In BT, it won't upload at all, and that caps my download speed until it eventually stops- that goes for shareaza as well, although that will only recognize 1 source to downlod from.
I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I figured you guys could give me a good base to begin my search

well you will need to open the ports that your applications uses specially P2P and Bittorrent, check the documentation and enable them...

if it was linksys i could help you. linksys just has you enter your IP address for the router (192.168.1.1) in the address bar, then you enter admin for the password and so forth. but for netgear, i, cant really help you on that, sorry.

Do this, I have a WGR614v2 11G router which is different, but should be similar:
Go to the Port Forwarding setting
Get the private IP (not Internet) for the computer you use for BT
Set it to forward connections from ports 6881 to 6999
That should work.

I set up the port forwading, but it still is not going faster than 1 kb/s and won't allow any uploads. In my port forwarding setup, it asks for the server ip. Should I put my IP of the router, main computer, or this computer, the one I wish to use BT on?
