Pc is duron 750/W98se was working fine until i changed the graphics card.I put i 4x agp card into a 2x agp slot hoping it would would default to 2x but it would not work it still booted to windows but would not work.So i installed the the original card and went to boot up but it stalls.I get to the the 2nd post screen before windows loads but it just hangs there.I tried using a W98 start up disk but it doesnt get far enough to recognise it.Have i killed the mobo trying a 4x agp card or is something else wrong ?
When you have video issues it's best to reboot to safe mode and set your video to 649 x 480 at 16 colors (vga default). save and reboot normal. there you can work on it. You probably didn't remove the old drivers when you installed the new card.
Thanks mate but i couldn`t even boot into safe mode.I thought it might be the ram memory so i pulled it out and tried it in another slot and it sprang into life.Damn PCs !
i was looking for a spot to put this post that be best, and here it is. My pc would boot up and right after the win98 screen would come up, it would go to the "it is now safe to turn off your computer" screen i tried to load things manually and the only thing that gave me trouble was Motvcd.vxd i entered "Y" and it went to the turn off your computer screen. When i hit "N" the same thing happened. What gives?
after further detaled searching, i saw what it would say before going to the it is now......turn off pc screen. It said "there was a problem loading gdi.exe. You must re-install windows. If i cant even get the pc to turn on how will i get to re-install windows. if i do get to re-install, will it erase all the things i had on the previous windows or wil it leave it alone?
