DVD acts weird after DVDShrink

I'm using the newest version of DVDShrink and a NEC 1100 4X DVD+RW. Almost every DVD i burn has skips every so often and a lota skips at the end. It's rather anoying. I use Deep Analysis and Book End and 30mm selected when i burn. Does anyone else have these problems? My friend has the same problems and seams to think it has to do with when the screen saver kicks on or the computer does another task, but i donno.

What speed are you burning at? I have seen similar problems when I burn @ 4X, some DVD players just dont like DVDs that are burned over 1 or 2X

It could also be a media issue. Are you using a different brand?

and remember to update nero, as this could cause these effects, too

I recently read (on another forum) that placing labels on your DVDs can cause them to skip. This is something to look at if you've eliminated outdated software or poor media quality. I've not encoutered this myself, but I read enough postings to see how this might help some people. Especially if the backup DVDs play fine on the computer, but not on standalone players. Has something to do with affecting the spin rate and balance.

Some people said that once they quit using labels, their skipping problems went away. One guy played a backed up DVD without a label and it worked fine. He put a label on and it skipped.

Now this might not hold for everyone. Several people thought it didn't matter. I've not had a problem, so I can't relate. I do know that if you use cheap media, and the movie you are backing up is long enough that it goes right to the outer edges of the disk, the movie will skip. That's why most skips are towards the end. Either use more compression to keep away from the disk edge, or better yet, use better media.

There was also a posting about a bug in all versions of DVD Shrink 3.x that caused skips and freezing in "some" DVDs, depending on the movie and the brand of stand-alone DVD player. This error would not occur with software DVD players like PowerDVD or WinDVD. This bug was recognized by the author and fixed in version 3.1.7.6. Now I did experience this bug when backing up "Empire of the Sun". I got freezes and skips on my new Pioneer DV 275, but not on my computer. I upgraded to DVD Shrink 3.1.7.6, re-did the back up, and the problem went away. So far, that was the only movie I had with that problem. All my other backups that were made with the older DVD Shrink version worked fine. I'm pretty new at DVD ripping, but I've learned to keep an open mind.
