Video Editing Audio Question

I have a question that hopefully someone here can help me with.

We are putting together an instructional video at work for people to view. We used a digital camcorder to record the video, and transferred the video to my computer using the firewire adapter.

Here's the problem. The person who recorded the video used a microphone that only recorded the left audio channel. When I output the video to DVD, it only has audio on the left side. I want to make an exact copy of the left channel, and overlay it onto the right channel so that the voice comes out of both speakers.

We are using Sony's Screenblast Movie Studio 3.0 for the video editing. Does anyone use this software that can help me with this?

Would it be possible to use a cable splitter before it gets to the computer to lay on the right channel?

Maybe try using some software like the sound recorder that comes with a creative sound blaster. Record what you heard and have the capture setting for a mono. This way both chans get the same info, then use video software to replace the audio stream with the mono file so both speakers will get the sound.

It transfers to the computer via firewire, so I can't use a splitter. Also, we do a lot of editing on the video once it's in the software, so it would be difficult to keep the audio and video lined up if we start with seperate sources.

We are able to use an outside software to overlay the 2 channels, but the length needs to stay the same.
