Seem to have picked up a virus in IRC

Hello everyone

Hope you can help me with this one. Bit dumb of me really, I seem to have clicked a link from someone I knew in IRC and , yeh you guessed it, it was a link to virus JPG

My AV software (norton corp) was on the latest deffinitions and had realtime protection running. It didn't pick it up. So far it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all and the only reason I know I've got it is because it's PMing people in IRC with a link to the virus.

So far it just seems to have afflicted this one PC and hasn't spread down the network.

But I can't seem to get rid. I've removed IRC, and even tried Adaware...

Not too concerned at the moment but I'm bit worried that it's up to something more sinister. Anyone know this virus or why I can't find it when I Scan for it?

Oh yeh one other thing it does : once it's PM'd someone the link it adds them to my ignore list so they can't reply. AT first it didn't do this so people replied with "What's this?" Its a new development....

Cheers all.

Just tried using McAfree's stinger. Didn't find anything either :|

W32/Spybot.worm.gen.a - The McAfee online scanner found it. Wonder why my running AV didn't ?

Ok downloaded a free trial of McAfee and it scanned the PC, found a few infected files all with W32/Spybot.worm.gen.a and cleaned them, but my mIRC Is still PMing people on its own with links to the virus!!

Is this something totally new that no AV program can kill yet?

Send a message via Yahoo to muno
Delete the entire mirc folder, it's probably some file there (script).

Managed to sort it. Was a virus that kept on reinfecting mIRC each time I reinstalled.

Quite amusing
