Im wondering how i can block aol instant messenger ads. I got a good linux firewall and i was thinking that i could just block aol.com. But im not sure if that will work. before i go through the trouble of restarting my linux box does anyone have any info on this?
Are you talking about the ads on AIM? I know that you can disable the welcome window , the one with the news and all, theres an option for that, and if you get DeadAIM, it doesnt have the ads on the aim buddy list window and all.
Not a bad idea but you might also want to try out Aimutation.
It's lets you make lots of choices about the AIM UI that isn't available otherwise. Waaay better than DeadAIM IMO (and you don't have to use the older 4.x version of AIM to get it free to boot).

didnt they impliment that with the 5x version?
Havent really used it so i not sure.
I know its had the little ad within the messenger itself for a really long time.
Could be a spyware issue tho I suppose if you were talking about popups.
The new beta has no pop-ups at all. The only thing remotely linked to a pop-up may be the AIM Today welcome screen, which you can turn off in Preferences.
