AVG Antivirus stopped working, so I reinstalled it. Then Windows XP Pro said a file was corrupt and needed to be fixed. I ran chkdsk, and rebooted. It did its stuff, but when I try to boot Windows now, it says lsass.exe can't start because of a missing .dll file...

I don't know what to do here. Someone help me...

Try these threads for help:
http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthr...ighlight=lsass

There are many other threads, just search all the TechIMO forums, you'll get dozens.

In my particular situation, I just did a HD wipe (zero-write) and reinstall of XP Pro SP1. I tried, unsuccessfully, to do a recovery, then some other hinky stuff started to happen so I used this as an excuse to clean house.

Good luck!

Problem solved. Repair install solved it.

Beemer: This was a panic post. Hence the title. I'll keep cool and search the next time I'm about to loose my work.

Ouch!

I was referring to the thread title. Not very descriptive.

Glad you got things running. We've all been there. With me, I'm usually working on someone else's computer when I have hit the panic button.

Cheers!
