BitTorrent 3.4.1
oK, so I have the latest version of BitTorrent, a client to be able to download files as torrents. I love it, except there's no option to disable uploads. I have nothing against sharing, but when I upload my internet gets slow, specially when playing games online. My ping gets so high its impossible to play. I want to be able to not share like in Kazaa Lite. Is this possible?

as far as i know, it's not possible. you can reduce the upload speed limit i think (using some python commands or something in command line) but it will take away from your download as well.

This is from BitTorrents official website's FAQ: Quote: |
You could hack the source to not upload, but then your download rate would suck. BitTorrent downloaders engage in tit-for-tat with their peers, so leeches have very little success downloading.
| Apparently its possible, but it would affect the download rate. This sucks, they should have an option of being able to not share. Now I cant play MOHAA while I am downloading files.

Get something like netlimiter, or a gui that allows the control of upload bandwidth.
But, you should be aware, that some trackers will ban ips that do not meet ratios.
So, if you download say 1GB, and upload 100kB, you could possibly get banned.

Why don't you just pause/stop bittorrent when you game? Download Azureus and use that for your client. Then when you go to game, just stop the download. Well, you'll have to shut down Azureus too, it's a CPU hog even when it's not downloading.
You can limit your upload speed with it too. I only have 30KB/sec upload on my cable, so I limit it to 15KB/s up so I still have some bandwidth. I still get decent downloads. Not as good as I do when it's unchoked though. I've pulled 250KB/sec on new anime stuff before with the choke shut off.

I use a program called burst! http://krypt.dyndns.org:81/torrent/index.phtml
It allows you to alter the setting of bittorent as well as a few other bits and pieces. Its a good program.

Well, BitTorrent doesnt have that option to pause/stop the downloading. At least the last version (the one I use). What I usually do is just cancel the download. But the thing is I have to go to the source where I got the file from, download it again, and it will resume itself (when you save it in the same directory as when you canceled before). I will try Azureus though.

Azureus is java based, and at least on my system, was such a resource hog I just had to give it up.
I used shadows experimental client succesfully, shortly after which I ceased to use bt alltogether.
Azureus, if over 1 download in progress, would consume 100% cpu time and over 100MB memory.

Ya, like I said, it's a CPU hog. But I didn't get along with Shadow's Client at all.
Dan, if you just close out the bittorrent window (don't hit the cancel button, use the x), you can just double click the torrent file and it will read and then start where it left off.
