epox 8rda3i winxp inst problem with usb and serial enumerator
Ok guys.. thsi has be stumped. I just got my new system with my:
epox 8rda3i mobo
amd athlon 2500+ barton (oc'd to 3200+)
256mb DDR 3200 HyperX Kingston
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128 AIW AGP8X
120MB Maxtor HD
CenDyne 16X DVDROM
Sony 52x24x52 CDRW
and my Demon Case.
Please note: I DO NOT HAVE THE FRONT USB HOOKED UP!
This has me puzzled. When I try to install Windows XP Pro, it loads install but freezes when it loads the files called SERIAL PORT ENUMERATOR. So i said, ok and disabled the serial ports in the bios. Install went past the serial port enumerator and then frooze on USB EHCP. So I disabled USB and windows xp installed correctly, however... When I reenabled the serial ports and USB one at a time, the serial ports detected fine, but USB reenabling caused a blue screen with no stop information. Any ideas?

Are you OC'ing the FSB? Does this happen at default speeds too?

One thing I'd consider trying is a BIOS flash to the latest available. There maybe a BIOS issue between XP, USB and serial ports for your mobo. There is a very good EPoX-oriented forum -- with official EPoX tech support as forum participants -- at http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/forum...?s=&forumid=27... they may have some insight. My EPoX experience only goes into the KT333 mobos... the 8K3A+, 8K5A2, 8K5A2+, etc. Not real up on problems with the newer boards.

Here's the BIOSes available from that same forum as posted above: http://files.aoaforums.com/index.php?dir=20
For the DNS-challenged http://216.12.210.219/index.php?dir=20

| This site is in the Netherlands, don't know if the files are compatible with your board.

FYI, the Netherlands EPoX site and the UK EPoX site seem to always have newer BIOSes available than the US EPoX site.
