Terragen Help!

Hello, I have been using terragen for a while and I have some questions...

First is I have downloaded the SOpack plugins for texturing, when I try to texture with images it seems only the color is changed, so my sand still looks like rock and such, I was wondering what I am doing wrong?

Also, I was wondering if somebody could tell me how to make those neat clouds that stretch with rays
