9800XT

I am just wondering, i am thinking of getting a 256mb R9800Xt after my Geforce FX5900 ran Medium graphics in FarCry.
Is there any other newer Radeon Graphics card besides PCIxpress that is coming out soon which will make buying the 9800xt useless? And if i do get a 9800Xt will this serve me for the best games coming out this year such as HL2, Doom3, Stalker and newer games in the years to come?

I say it's a waste to upgrade from a phenominal card to a slightly more phenominal card. Won't notice much of a difference from what I gather.

What kinda ram do you have on your computer? It may not be the video card. [Which in this case I doubt it is the video card because I have a 5900 and ran on full settings in Far Cry very nicely]

At the moment the game runs smootly at Medium settings, but i want the added eye candy, how can you do this. I have also heard switching to OpenGL makes it faster but in the game it is locked and cant change it, how can i?

Right-click the desktop, the click Properties. Go to the Settings tab, then click Advanced. I no longer have an nVidia card so I can't say exactly what the options are, but look around there. There should be a place where you can set the Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering.

I mean switch the game renderer to Opengl rather than direct 3d, how do you doi that? could this improve game speeds?

I didn't ahve to do that. As what bingo sais, I can runt he farcry demo at 1024x768 res and all the eye candy turned on and my 5900 handles it just fine.

Check your antialiasing settings and anistrofic settings and make sure they are turned off, or set to let the program handle it.

Some games have a seperate configuration program thats usually available from the start menu folder for the game. This program has options for graphics and stuff that cannot be changed in the game. This may be the case with Farcry.

I currently have 4x AA and 4x AF, turning these off should speed up performace of the game with high graphics turned on? Is that right

You should just set those to "application controlled" for best performance.
