What's the deal with S-L-O-W printing?

Fellow Members:

It's likely something that I did . . . but:

My HP laserjet "spools" (which I thought was supposed to result in faster printing) but it does not!

Same with my (USB)Epson C82!

What's the deal? Any ideas as to what I should look for re settings? Both printers used to react instantly -- click "print" and B-A-M! --> Print!

Ohh ... same with my fax. It's as though it auto-ques even when no jobs are in line

Thx.

Something you need to check anyhow if you have a parrallel connection would be the bois setting for the parallel port. Make sure the port is configured with the setting ECP instead of the slow bi-directional. This allows print jobs to be 10x faster than the old bi-directional standard.

I'm sure that you have a USB connection right? Your problem should be easy to fix. Someone should know your problem and help you in a minute. I'll check back b/c I'm kinda curious.

In Win XP, you can click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > Right Click on the "Default Printer" > Choose Properties > Then Advanced > Then check the spool options there. You may want to make sure that you have the printer on "spool" and that it is set to "Start Printing Immediately". Or you can try to second option "Print directly to the printer". Windows 2000 pro will be a little different, but I am not sitting in front of that OS right now so I am guessing that the spool options are near the same place as they are in XP.

When I would click print, I had the same problem where it would take forever for the printer to start printing and I have spool enabled. But I did as you said mar122999 about setting the parallel port to ECP. Now it prints almost as soon as I click print. Thanks for the tip.

I'll reboot and check. My HP is a bi-directional printer and the Epson uses a USB nterface.

I'll give your idea a go.

Thx.
