Memory prices going up

Just a heads up, my hardware supplier has informed my that memory prices are about to jump so you may want to pick some up before too long.

I was getting a quote for some DDR400 PC3200 just today.

I can't see this just being Canada but I have not heard anything else on this.

I bought 512mb of PC3700 from Komusa about 3 weeks ago for $78. Today the same ram from Komusa is $93.
Do you see a trend here?

I'm still waiting on my $2000 return from the government. I think a laptop is waiting at the end of the tunnel for me.

also most manufacturers will stop using regualr DDR in favor of DDR2 when it comes out in hopefully a month or so...so much less DDR will be manufactured

therefore the demand to most people wanting to add some will be the same but the supply will have shrunk greatly....there might be a liquidation point though where they are very cheap if they have too much backstocked (is that a word?)

Both DRAM spot and contact prices are starting to edge upwards in trading. Standard DDR memory is up 5% on average today, while DDR SO-DIMM memory is up nearly 7% today!

Part of the issue may be a fallout from the resignation of Schumacher as CEO of Infineon.

Industry analysts predict up to a 19% jump for DDR modules next month. This estimate is on top of this month's 12%-17% increases across the board for popular size modules.

DDR prices are expected to steadily increase throughout the next several weeks.

Incorrect. Go back and read this month's analyst reports. DDR-II is being favored among graphics manufacturers, but not OEM system or motherboard manufacturers. Top-tier OEM's will likely not even adopt DDR-II until well into 2005.

In fact, AMD sees absolutely no reason to even adopt DDR-II as a motherboard memory standard at this time, even with its next-generation of n-way Opteron server configurations.

Damn the market! I want cheap ram. /me ponders the idea of establishing his own company and flooding the market with cheap chips to drive the price down.
