Best HS& fan for KT600 board

Hi all, I have a KT 600 board with a 2500+ cpu and I can't overclock this thing much without it taking a poop. Thinking it's my HS(stock) because my temps are in the low 50's at idle. Either that or my ram(Generic). What do you think? get a new heatsink and fan or better ram, or both? And any recommmendations on either.
Thanks guys Techimo is the best!

What speed is your ram and how much of it do you have?

I use this cooler on my 2500+ @ 3200+ and get temps around 37 or 38 with the case open. But beware this thing is BIG but is very quiet. You need to have a case where the p/s is mounted up against the top of the case. Most cases with four 5.25 drive bays are like this. If your case has the p/s mounted against the side like in most cases with two or three 5.25 drive bays it won't fit.

The best way to overclock one of these chips is to use a board with 400FSB and PC3200 ram [or better] Then all you need to do is set the FSB of the board to 200 instead of your chips spec of 166 and use the default multiplier of 11. This should work regardless of your chip being locked or unlocked. Now it should run like a 3200+.

Yea, get good HSF. I'm using a Thermaltake Volcano 11+. I use it on my 2600+ (not overclocked cause I dont have good ram) and am getting temps with a low of 34C and a high of 41C. This thing is quite loud at 48dB @ 75CFM. My board is the gigabyte GA-7VT600-L it did bend one of my capacitors out of the way, but very slightly.

That's the Board I have, minus the L I just have the regular GA-7vt600, And I'm looking for something quiet, thats why I didn't get that HSF. Also I heard I should get a copper HSF, is this better? And also my ps has two fans and I have the double up front and one on the back that I recently turned around to blow in instead of out hoping that would make a difference, not much.

Your temps are not too unreasonable if you are running at 100% CPU output. If you're in the 50's at "idle" then cooling is an issue.

What bus speed and multiplier are you running? Have you tried to increase your memory voltage. Most memory will get better stability if you add +0.2 or +0.3 vDimm, but I wouldn't go any higher.

Also, I have a 2500+ that doesn't like over-volting... I get better speeds at default 1.65 vCore, but no matter what I do, it will not run above about 2083mHz... just not a good overclocker... luck of the draw.

I'm running it at 166 can't go above 174 before it goes out. Yes I try to raise the voltage and this particular cpu doesn't like it at all. I'm just wondering if it's the heat that doesn't allow it to go to 200 FSB or my generic ram, But like I said low 50's at idle I'm not liking that.

Well don't forget that this board doesn't lock the AGP or PCI frequencies. So when you up the FSB your also upping the AGP and PCI frequencies. It also can be your stock cooling. I tried overclocking mine with the stock HSF and I couldn't go up past 181MHz. Since I got the new HSF I'm able to get it to boot up to, if I remember correctly, 193MHz. My bottle neck is my 512MB Kingston PC2700.
