Domain name registration

How can I be assured if I register a Domain name that it cannot be registered by another? Is there a central location that registaration is saved?

As long as you have a domain registered no one else can register that domain until your registration time expires.

What type of checking system is in place to insure that two people cannot register the same domain? There are several companies on the web that sell domain registration, are they all tied to the same data base of registered domain names?

register.com ,tucows ,godaddy

Simply, YES. That is precisely the business of the domain registrars.

Just btw, Regester. com sucks. I sincerely hope no one here at TechIMO is foolish enough to be using their service. I made the mistake once. Ugh. Go with www.godaddy.com

Godaddy rocks. Prices are great! Options after purchase are terrific.

No way! $12 a year just for url forwarding. Rip. That's free at GoDaddy.

" For just $12 a year we can set up URL forwarding for your domain
- just call customer service at 1-203-448-2021"

No telling what they charge for all the other services that Godaddy offers for free.

Wow. They really are a rip-off Couse...

From their home page:
" Get your own domain and matching e-mail address. Only $30.95/year"

That's insane. Same service at Godaddy is $7.95/year.
