Pest Patrol!

I got a free copy of this program in school, where they were giving out free copies of it (dont ask me why) I had heard of it, and I knew it was an anti-spyware program, but I never gave much attention to it. Why? Because its not free as Spybot or the free version of Ad-Aware. So I wasnt that happy when I recieved the free copy of it. Anyways I decided to give it a try. I have heard its interface was betetr than Spybot, but NO it isnt. Its ugly. I dont mind that, but I thought it would look like Ad-Aware, I mean good looking interface, but I was wrong. The icons for the program are typical Windows 98 ones. But after updating the software with its update tool (which was easy) I ran the scan and boy got a surprise! It found spyware that Ad-Aware and Spybot left behind. And I use both of them regulary totally updated. I mean literally it found more than 10+ spyware in my computer. Some of them were labeled as High risk (many of them being Kazaa, which is strange since I've never installed that program in my computer, except Kazaa Lite which is spyware free) After the scan finished it gave tips of what to do with the spyware, all of them were labeled delete, so I deleted all of them with no problems. It also has a Control Terminal that runs as a service in Windows, plus a Memory Checker, and a Cookie Patrol (which works great, finds those cookie spyware and delete them automatically without you even noticing it, much better than doing manual scans with Ad-Aware to delete all those cookie spyware that I get everyday) I noticed it deleted these cookie spyware files because of the log of the program. I must say I am impressed by this software. I recommend it, and so far (about 4-6 days of use) I have had no problems with it what so ever. The only thing I give it a minus is the interface, and its annoying and ugly sounds that come with the program. Check it out! (One thing though, the evaluation copy does NOT delete or quarantine the spyware that it finds, which makes it useless ) Too bad its not free.

Its a bummer they dont have a free version, and that the trial version of their product is literally useless. But I agree with you its a really nice product.

i actually got a trial version, but it only scans my computer. i found more then 1400+ spyware and adware... but u can only remove it if you buy pest patrol... so it leaves you kind of mad because you know you have all this spyware and adware but u only can remove them by deleting the file one by one......
like dan said, trial's useless

but if youre thinking of buying it, its simply great, i highly recomend it

I have Pest Patrol.. it came with another application I bought. It will not update itself.. I rarely open it because of this, and every so often I try the updater..and get the following screen. Notice that I have shut ZA down, but the updater failed with a possible firewall problem.

I keep saying I will just uninstall the utility because its doing absolutely nothing...then I read a blurb somewhere that somebody is successful in running it, and I think maybe I can get it going..but I never do.

Anybody ever have a problem updating Pest Patrol?

If so, what did you do to fix it?

Do you have a router with firewall? Its maybe the cause of it not being able to connect to the server. I got connected directly, and it worked flawless. Many updates though, but it downloaded them all successfully, with no problems at all.

Really weird utility...has a mind of its own.

I went to the website and manually D/L all of the files. overwriting what was there from 2002.

I have Pest Patrol on my E: partition, so..after manually updating all of the files, I let the updater.exe run to see if anything had been missed. Guess what.. Past Patrol downloaded everything and put it on C:\Program Files\PestPatrol...ok..so, now what.

What I have on the E: partition is a registered version. What I have on the C:\Program Files..is the trial version. What next!!

Can I simply delete what was created on the C: drive? or did the download and creation of a complete new setup also get registered?...sheese.

Other than that...all seems to be working...

Bov, the fact you have shutdown ZA is the reason why PP will not work. Remember ZA has a service running to monitor app installs etc. Try again.

PP is the best spyware, scumware, malware remover that I know of. It has a database of 30,000+ while SB and AA have 10,000+.

Let me know if this works.

It’s good to be back on TechIMO

I know what your saying about this program DanGrease. It happens to me with sample programs I try all the time. You look at; find its ugly; use it; fall in love with it; but it's not free. You don't want to spend the money on the program - especially if the interface is not appealling. It is good, but you don't need it bad enough to spend money.
