Maxtor 80gig HD as a slave?

Heyas,

My computer allready has a 80gig Seagate HD, but I brought another Hd the other day which was the one in the title. I am assuming that a slave is just another added HD on the computer that you can just access any time that doesnt have windows etc on it?

Well When i plug it into the mobo the computer does not recognize it, Is it because soemthing else has to be done to it first before It can be recognised?

This is just straight out of the wrapping and into the computer if any one is confused.

The jumper is set to 'CS enabled'. I tried removing the jumper completely and that still didnt work.

Any ideas of what I have to do?

I hope yas know what I mean,

-P

should have seagate set to jumper master/maxtor as jumper slave. Attach seagate to master ribbon cable and maxtor to slave on ribbon cable.
Jumper settings are usually illustrated on the hard drive themselves, but I am unfamiliar with seagate.
Just set the jumpers and you are good to go.

Well seeming as the jumpers on the Seagate are working now, does that mean they dont have to be touched?

On the Maxtor Hard drive it says: "No Jumper = DS (SLAVE)"

So that means that I take the jumper away completely and it should work?

Also I am going to be using a different cable for each of the Hd's

ok-your maxtor wont work as cable select so set it to master or single...whatever the maxtor term is and all should be well

Well I tried setting it to master then, that didnt work.

When on CS (im guessing thats cable select?) that doesnt work either

There is also another little jumper I think down the far right, it only takes up one pin, is that right?

are you doing the following-
plugging the ribbon cable in?
plugging the power supply into the drive?
Have your bios setting to auto detect for finding new drive?
Go to bios and see if drive is seen there

also, if I remember...you have to look at the instructions that came with the maxtor drive to make sure you have the jumper(s) set correctly
