USB drive concern

I'm running Windows 98 and I've observed some strange occurances with my USB drive. First off, my computer will not boot while the USB drive is plugged in. I've guessed its a BIOS issue but I haven't had time to fully investigate it yet. Seccondly, I was trying to open some .bmp images from my USB drive and it caused windows to crash to a BSOD. i rebooted and tried again a few times with the same result, and finally i just moved the files to my hard drive and opened them up with no problems. weird. I just installed the drivers for the device a little over a week ago, so they shouldn't be a problem.

First thing to do is plant that drive in another comp, preferrably one running 2000 or XP as you don't need drivers. If they transfer fine in that setting, it's your comp or the drivers.

Also, uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

I say plug the drive in, go into Device Manager, and remove the drivers completely. Download fresh builds, and give it a go.

This step-by-step USB Troubleshooter might help. Lots of other links on the page as well. You mentioned you're using Win98, and then later said you had no problems in Win98SE on another computer. If your computer is actually running Win98 FE, you may need additional patches, BIOS update or drivers to assure proper USB performance.

Sorry for the lack of clarity, the computer with the problem is also running 98SE. I'll check out that troubleshooter and reload the drivers when I get home.
