well the teaching center...be it "CTEC" or whomever it may be..they dont really decide whether you are a "paper" mcse or not....that is up to you.
In other words the teaching center just teaches you how to pass the test...the rest is up to the individual...if you have a lot of experience already..then you wouldnt be a paper mcse.
----
That being said.... I will add this. I dont see how ANYONE can do a 2 week course and pass all 7 mcse tests. That would be beyond my capabilities anyway. I see it being more reasonable to take college classes and pass each mcse test as you pass the class in college etc. I tried some "crash" cram type classes for mcse tests...of course I didnt have ANY experience with w2000 at ALL....so I passed the 70-210 and it wasnt very hard...neither do I think the 70-215 would be....but then I sat thru the 70-216 class and it was so far over my head I wouldnt have had a CHANCE to actually pass the test. It was totally new terminology etc etc.
Maybe you could just do it a bit at a time....for instance just study for the 70-210 test at first and go pass it. The 70-210 is just the basic test on Installing, configuring and supporting windows2000 etc. if you pass it then you are an "MCP"..a Microsoft Certified Professional....that is a start as far as certs go.
There is also a MCSA cert now...which is basically just a partial MCSE...MCSA is when you have a certain 4 of the 7 tests passed. SO an MCSA would be a good goal along the way to the full mcse.

okay..evidently a "CTEC" is a microsoft "certified technical education center"
you can go here..click on "training" and do a search. I searched for centers within 100 miles of durham NC and found 6 different ones. (its a little weird the way the search works, I had to fool with it a while to get it)

I have dealt with this one before
http://directory.microsoft.com/Resou...5a0%3d&Index=0 that is where I got my 70-210 mcp...and also my A+ a couple years before that.

here is one way to look at it.....what you are today with your current level of knowledge etc...is "what you are"....if you go pass a 2 week crash course and then pass the mcse tests (7 of them!!)..."what you are" hasnt actually changed all THAT much...what will have changed is that you will have your name on an mcse cert...or at least some mcp certs if you only do some of the tests etc. Its sort of the "what you are" that determines if you are a "paper" this or that.
If u cant do the job now...having a cert with your name on it wont help much...not as far as actually DOING the job. Of course the main thing is GETTING a job...and that is really where a cert is supposed to help...(and also with wages a bit...a certed employee is worth more to an employer..so they should be paid alittle more)
with 14 years experience I doubt you would be a paper tech...and obviously with the experience...your resume would look good to an employer....so you are a great example of a person who could really benefit from a cert or two...because you have the experience to back it up.
If you were to go to an interview and you have a cert and the guy next to you also has one...but you have 14 years experience and he doesnt....you have a tremendous advantage over him. (unless you have bad breath...so take breath mints!!)
