Hard Drive Shows As 2 Gigs

My Maxtor 40 GB HD is showing up as 2 GBs.I know it has to do with the BIOS but I cant remember how to fix it.
If it helps, this is my system:
Shuttle An35n-Ultra
2500+ Barton
Maxtor 40 GB 7200 rpm
256 of OCZ Pc3200 ram

Thanks in advanced

ExSus,

Is your HD already formatted? I mean older BIOS sometimes needed help with larger drives, but yours shouldn't have any trouble picking up a 40 GB HD. Though if its already formated with just FAT and not FAT32, then that might be it. I think FAT had a limit of 2 gigs ....

Yep, sounds like a FAT-formated drive. Obtain PartitionMagic any way you please, and that will allow you to manipulate it to your liking.

On the other hand, your BIOS may have incorrect ATA settings but that's a stretch.

What OS are you running? If you have 2000 or XP, I suggest using NTFS, but that's just me (and most every TIMO member too). If it's 98se or WinME, you will be stuck with FAT32.

If it's your boot drive, you are going to have to boot off the Windows CD, format it using FAT32 or NTFS, and reinstall Windows. If it isn't your boot drive, right-click it and hit Format, then select FAT32. See if that works.

Edit - Formatting will destroy all data on that drive. But at 2GB, it should be an easy backup.
