Error 1722? How to fix it?

HI-

I am trying to install a Nortan Antivirus program and every time i try to install it i get a error message. I will include a picture with this post of the error. Can someone please tell me how to fix it? Also there seems to be a ActiveX problem to when trying to do a Windows Update. And some information on the computer is it has Windows XP Home on it. Please help me.

Error 1722 is usually caused by a previous unsuccessful install (or uninstall) of software through the MSI engine.

Did you have an older version of Norton already running on your PC? If so, did you uninstall it before installing the new version ?

You can remove your Active-X objects within IE by going to Tools... Internet Options... Settings... View Objects, and then deleting the objects. This should force a re-install when you hit websites or run programs that add Active-X controls.

What is the specific problem you are having with Windows Update. Are you getting a specific error message?
