Moving Documents and Folders in WinXP

I've recently switched from Win2K to WinXP as my Windows OS.

One of the things that really bugs me about Windows is its insistence on mixing data with the OS partition. Specifically, I'm looking for a way to move the entire Documents and Folders tree out of the OS partition (D: on my system) to my data partition (F.

Under Win2K I could accomplish this via an unattended install setting, specifically by adding to the [GUIUnattended] section of the script file the setting ProfilesDir = "X:\New Location\".

Is there a way to accomplish the same thing with XP?

Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately, this isn't what I want to accomplish. TweakUI will allow me to move certain individual folders within a specific user's settings (e.g., I can move the currently logged-in user's Favorites folder, or his My Documents folder). But what I want to do is to move the *entire* C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS folder containing all users to a different partition. I don't see a setting in TweakUI that will allow me to do that. Did I miss something?

Thanks again for your time.

Should be under "My Computer" > Special Folders > Folders > ( select My Documents in dropdown menu ) > Change Location.

Hi, Bill.

Point of confusion:

I'm referring to the "Documents and Settings" tree, not the "My Documents" folder.

Under Win2K, the only way to place the entire "Docs and Settings" tree on a different partition was to do an automated install and set a switch in the install script. Once the OS was installed, the Docs and Settings tree could not be moved.

So far, I haven't figured out whether this is possible with XP.
