Athlon XP 2500+ runs slowly

I recently upgraded my mobo and CPU, but my CPU is running slowly.

I have a GigaByte K7 Triton GA-7N400 Pro 2 w/1gb RAM, and an Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton) CPU.

The CPU is rated at 1833mb, but the BIOS (and several benchmarking utilities) report it running at 1100mhz. I've set the FSB to 166mhz in the BIOS (and also tried 200mhz), but it still runs at 1100mhz.

Even with the BIOS FSB setting at 166mhz, the overclocking software that came with the mobo stills reads 100mhz, and when I try to crank up the FSB via the software, it doesn't stick -- after a reboot, the software is reporting 100mhz again.

Anyone have any experience with this mobo/cpu combo?

You are correct in wanting to run the processor at 166 Mhz FSB. What make / type of ram are you using, you need PC2700 or above for it to work. slower RAM that has SPD chips on them may force the mobo as fast as the RAM ca so if you have bought PC2100 RAM this may be the problem.

Is ther a jumper on the motherboard to set the FSB to more than 100Mhz As you said, its done in the BIOS but it is worth a try.

Yep, that was it. Thanks from an overclocking newbie for the tip. FSB's now at 167 and the processor's running at 1830mhz.

Now a followup question:

Anybody have any experience with Gigabyte's EasyTune4 overclocking software? I'd been playing with it trying to resolve my problem. In the center of the display is a panel with Default, Load, Save and Easy Mode buttons. While I was playing with it, suddenly a chrome cover closed over the panel and I've been unable to access it since.

Anybody out there with EasyTune4 experience that can tell me what happened, and how I can access the panel?
