nero / liteon - joliet errors

hello,

does anybody have an idea how to fix the joliet errors nero express gives.

I run windows Me with a 52/32/52 liteon cd rw drive which has nero express updated to the latest version 5.5.10.56.

Cds burn ok when there are no files that are longer than the ISO format of 8characters.3character. The previous adaptedc software I used with my old cd burnder did not have a problem with the file names nero seems to have.

i'd be greatful for any help.

many thanks,
sam

I notice that your aspi layer is way out of date...mine is 4.712 dated October 30, 2003. Donno if that is part of the problem or not.

Did your version of Nero come bundled with some burner..but not with the one now in use?.. or, is the version of Nero you are using a completely registered version?..

I like to close all applications running except systray and explorer..then, I keep the hard drive defragged good...many times I defrag just prior to a burning session. I see where you only have 5 mb physical ram available..why?... something is eating your ram for lunch...closing all applications not in use should free up some ram.

can I update the aspi layer and if yes i would be thankful for any guidance.

Nero Express came with the liteon burner - so i uninstalled the adaptec software for burning which came with my previous CD RW.

Don't know - why it is so low. most of the time i only have the burner software open and it still shows the same errors about the joliet names being too long - and I recently just defragmented. I shall keep your advise in mind the next time I'll try to burn.

I am worried about my computer as a whole as I keep receiving emails with forged sender addresses to one of my email addresses that nobody could know? very strange - I wonder if some trojan has sliped in.

No problem, just need to find a starting place.

Go here and download the ASPI layer for Windows 98 and the rest.

"23 Nov 2002 Windows ASPI drivers version v4.71.2
ASPI v4.71.2 for Windows 98, NT 4, ME, 2000 and XP"

When you get the file, just run it..it will automatically update your aspi layer.

Nero Express came with the liteon burner - so i uninstalled the adaptec software for burning which came with my previous CD RW.

Uninstalling Adaptec software does not always get what you want. It leaves behind files that (used to) play he** with other burning software... I am not sure about it today, its been about 3 hard drives ago when I had it...never again. Your Liteon burner should work fine with your Nero...but that Nero will only work with a Liteon burner with the same grade bios (or whatever its called). It must be registered before it will recognise a different burner

Before you attempt a burn, bring up the close program menu (also called the end task menu). To do this, while at desktop, hit ctrl+alt+del ONCE... this will bring up the close programs menu. Highlight (one at a time) each application you find in there...except Systray and Explorer...then, hit end task...may take a couple of times for some of the stubborn ones. What you see there in the close programs menu when you first bring it up is programs running in the background, and...using RAM. I think probably I would try a reboot..then close everything out except Systray and Explorer. That should give you all of the available RAM you have there...there are also RAM managers to get, that do a good job.. Win98, 98SE and ME are not known as good RAM managers

I am worried about my computer as a whole as I keep receiving emails with forged sender addresses to one of my email addresses that nobody could know? very strange - I wonder if some trojan has slipped in.

Yep...sure sounds like you may have a virus or a worm/trojan.. I believe I would be getting and running some uptodate AV applications as well as worm and trojan cleaners...

You may want to think about running a firewall too. These software firewalls will not keep the ardent or experienced hackers out..but they don't bother with us surfers much if any..its the kiddies just learning who hack into the average surfer.
