Well, AOL has a horrible interface, is slow, crashes sometimes, is bloated, and is expensive.

Need more? How about: http://www.nomoreaolcds.com/

You can't convince someone that Earthlink is better just because of some "tech weenie" rant about AOL.

Show them the kind of content Earthlink provides and why it is better than AOL. AOL provides a lot of local content, their own radio client, message boards and chat rooms. They provide content non-subscribers must pay for, including CNN, CBS News, etc., music downloads, parental controls, and the list goes on and on. Just show them how Earthlink provides each of these services and how it's better than AOL's.

I would personally go with Earthlink without even knowing about it because in my opinion AOL is spyware. Thats a big reason why you shouldnt use it, and stay away from it.

I have seen aol cause lots of technical problems on comps....because of its stupid interface and the way it installs etc....it's like once its there you cant get it off. Bloatware.

Once again, these are not compelling reasons to switch.

"Spyware", "bloatware", etc. are not terms with which a typical AOL user is familiar. If the user is not having problems with AOL, trying to convince them that AOL is causing someone else "technical problems" is similarly uncompelling.

You must demonstrate that what Earthlink provides, other than just another dial-up number, is vastly superior to AOL.

a faulty product is a faulty product is a faulty product.....consumer reports tells people all the time "dont buy this..it sucks", lol...same with aol.

Show them their abysmal customer satisfaction ratings.

AOL is spyware, period. To delete their products from your computer is a nightmare. Even their products come included with others (such as ICQ Lite) And that is what I call Spyware. Also it causes more problems than Windows itself, which is another reason to not use it.

Good suggestion JP. I'll have to remember that in the future.
