Nvidia 56.64 driver muckin' with me

Ok folks, I need some help. I dl'd the Nvidia 56.64 drivers from the primary dl site at nvidia.com last night and installed them (ran DC2 in safe mode). I installed the drivers and checked in device manager which told me the version was 52.16 WTF!? So.... today I get home from work, dl the driver from a mirrior site and repeat the process. Device manager now shows the driver version as 56.64, but riva tuner shows the following...

File Description Version
nv_4disp.dll Display driver 52.16
nvoglnt.dll OpenGL installable client driver 52.16
nv4_mini.sys Display driver miniport 52.16
nvcpl.dll Display properties extension 52.16
nview.dll Display management hook library 56.64
nvshell.dll Shell namespace extension library 56.64
nvwdmpcl.dll Display manager control panel a... 52.16
nvsvc32.exe Display helper service 52.16

WTF!!
What am I doing wrong here? Where the hell did the 52.16 come from? If someone could please help me out here, I'd appreciate it.

What is DC2?

If its kinda borked like that probably best

Uninstall in safe mode
REBOOT
Install in safe mode
REBOOT back to normal mode

If you're using Win9x/ME you can use detonator destroyer to clean up the mess before reinstalling.

i've tried that a couple of times now. DC2 is driver cleaner 2.7 which works great. I dunno, I guess it's back to the 53.03 series.

You NEED to uninstall the current NVIDIA drivers first and revert to Windows generic VGA drivers. After rebooting, you can install the new drivers. Works everytime for me.

Robert

PS

I might also add, if your current drivers are working with all your apps, pass on the upgrade. You might also set a "restore" point in Windows before you change any drivers.
