CPU100% and hanging diskclean up

strange very strange
I ran disk cleanup, clicked C: drive and it hung at scanning old compressed files, jacked my CPU usage to 100% after 2 minutes I Ctrl+alt+del to shut it down.

CPU stayed at 100%
ctrl+alt+del again, under applications nothing running

under the processes tab cleanmgr.exe running

restart

again same results but let disk cleanup hang for 3 minutes

same results, restart

tried again and let disk cleanup run 12 minutes, hpoing it wuld run it's course, Nada

I have run into this kind of behavior with that APP in Win2K as well as XP. I cannot explain it, so I've fallen into the habit of periodically deleting my temporary internet files using Internet Explorer, properties. That seems to be about all the APP used to find anyway...

Try doing the Diskclean in SAFE mode. Also, what AV program are you using?

using norton 2003, I had ran ad aware and spybot right before the disk cleanup

full system scan with norton on tuesday
