What kind of video card are you using? Here is something I found in the MS knowledge base.

MS Knowledge

Sorry I read over your statement about the intergrated video.
It is a problem with your video though. I will check some more for you.

Are you doing a clean install or are you doing an upgrade?

Try hitting F8 when it is booting to get into Safe Mode and check the Device Manager to see if it is recognizing the video correctly.

Here is something I found on the Dell website. It's for Windows 2000 but it should work for XP too.

Dell

When you get into Safe Mode right click on My Computer, click on Manage, then click on Device Manager then look for any large yellow question marks or red X's. Specifically, look at the display and see what it shows.

Let us know.

Are you sure that your graphics are integrated? Some of those models come with an Nvidia pci card. It sounds like this is the problem you are having. If you do have integrated graphics then the Dell link may not help.
