I recently changed my net connection from a dial-up connection to one through a cable modem. I'm running XP HOME and have the newest (6.1) version of Messenger.
Since changing from dial-up to cable, Messenger no longer connects automatically. When I start up my machine, Messenger loads into the system tray and it appears to try to connect (icon flashes) but does not.
I have to manually sign in.
After I sign in, everything is fine.
It's almost as if Messenger tries to sign-in before the cable network is established and then never tries again.
Had similar trouble...tho i running Windows ME and all of a sudden my msn would take forevaaaaaaa to sign in, if it did at all lol...turned out to be a mostly Norton caused problemo. I was advised by JohnProphet a techy reg here ye to reinstall Norton...that helped much! As i recall, thinking spyware and a virus were also contributing factors to my computer booting slowwwwwww.
If you go to 'tools..options..general...do you have "allow automatic sign in when connected to the internet" checked?? maybe it unchecked itself cuz u changed connections.
Maybe it is still checked and you have to uncheck it..then re-check it to let it realize it has another type of connection now?
