different computer

Okay, I currently just got a new optical mouse. I was looking to install it, but unfortunately it requires removing the old mouses programing bofore installing the new ones software. Not a problem right? wrong. In my mixed mayham of cleaning out my system, I accedenly deleted one of the files installshield needs to remove it. So here's the jist of it, I need to remove it manually, anyone know how to do that?

Re-install the old mouses software/driver from the original setup file, making sure you install it to the same location as you did before and then un-install it

Hmm... which OS? What's a no go, the old mouse won't re-install or you get the same error when trying to then un-install? Maybe try removing it from Device Manager, power down, connect the new mouse and restart and see if Windows detects new hardware and installs generic drivers for it.

or you can do it the hard way... cleaning the registry. but before going into that, you can try system mechanic and see which programs (suppose to be the old mouse program) have errors in the installation and remove them if necessary. norton also has the safeclean software that can delete the program including the registry keys safely.

I was thinking about the registry part, so I tried it last night, and it worked. Oh, and it was a no go on reinstalling, I tried, program crashed, I tried again, program crashed again, I restarted my computer, crash, shut it off of 15 min, crashed again, so I said **** it, and spent 6 hours going through every file in the directory to make sure I got it removed. then I removed it from the system and all. anywho, I got my optical mouse working, so thanks for your guys help.
