Writing zeros to drive.
I am wanting to completely reformat my Harddrive. you know the basics, write zeros, partition, format, then install windows 98. problem, I forgot what program it is that you use to write zeros to drive. I thought it was fdisk, but I'm not sure.

Utilities that can write all zeros to a drive usually come from the hard drive manufacturer. If you're just wanting to re-install Windows 98 writing all zeros to the drive isn't necessary... just fdisk, partition, format and you're good to go.

Edit: just found out about this from a different thread: KillDisc

Denkai specifically said he wanted to zero-write the drive (must have some reason to do this).

I wanted to write 0's so that information can't be retrieved.
Curious about the killdisk, does it remove existing files too? or just files that ave been marked "deleted" on the harddrive?

Killdisk removes everything. Nothing can be recovered. Also try Jetico's Best Wipe if your goal is to make files unrecoverable.

Killdisk is very dangerous. Used properly, it will clean your drive like it was new. Used improperly, it will make all your data go bye-bye.
