Switch Box or Speakers.

Hi its only me, im in a bit of a fix i have a perfect sony hi fi system with 5 surround speakers.I use windows xp and there media library for my music but it doesnt sound to good on my pc little speakers. So i got too wondering if there was some way i could connect my pc to my hi fi and apparently there is, you can get a 5-way switch box i will just unplug the connections from my dvd that go in back of the hi fi for dolby surround experience then hopefully hey presto!. I cant wait to hear my music from my pc come alive on my hi fi its 300 watts by the way, then i got too thinking, (always dangerous with me.) would i be better off with a new set of speakers there not too expensive. maybe the switch box isnt as simple as all that im not too hot on computers but i know the basics is the switch box really simple too use or am i best spared the heartache and buy a new set of speakers oh and while we are at it what is a sound card i must have one as i can hear sounds. thanks for taking the time to read this post any advise would be welcome. Switch box or speakers i have not a clue.

first of all, welcome to techimo
second of all, bumping is to be limited to once every 24 hours

a sound card is what takes the sound from your computer at takes them to the speakers (via a wire or wires). many motherboards have them built in, but alot of people spend more money and get one for a pci slot (so it gives more connections in the back of the computer. i am not familiar with a 5-way switch box but i would assume that you would need a higher end sound card to get full use out of your surround sound. some old motherboards have built in mono or stereo sound, some newer ones have 5.1 surround sound connections in the back, and i believe there are even 7.1 channel surround sound pci cards.

i will let someone with more knowledge help you from here

Thanks for your advise the sound card sounds complicated where do you put it im not very good at messing around with computer boards is it easy to apply. A switch box is a box that you plug your speakers into you then plug it into a usb at the back of your computer.Maybe ill get new speakers, Sorry dont know what bumping means. Is it rude.
