Unless you enjoy wasting hundreds of dollars for a marginal performance increase, then I suggest avoiding the EE like the plague. The same can be said for the current Athlon 64 FX.

The P4EE is a Pentium 4 with an additional cache layer. It is essentially a Socket 478 Xeon processor.

Pick up the Pentium 4 Prescott or stock Athlon 64, and put the difference in money as compared to the EE towards obtaining a better motherboard and/or video card.

I have heard that prescotts run very hot and at the moment they have no significant performance increase over the P4 3.2 Ghz @ 800 FSB (130 nm process) The prescotts use a 90 nm process but has an even longer pipeline so overall it's about the same.

My recomendation, stay away and go Athlon 64. When Win XP 64 bit comes out, it will be like a free hardware upgrade. You would have to pay for the OS though

Extremely expensive processor for people that want the best in the market. Sure its really powerful, but for the small difference from the other processors that are on top, its not worth the extra bucks. I would go for a Northwood Pentium 4, 3.2GHz 800MHz right now, if you want an extremely powerful processor.
