Odd... AMD K7 & Win Update
Win XP Pro/Athlon XP 2200+/Asus A7N8X Deluxe/ATI 9600 Pro
I just checked Windows Update to see if there were any new updates since the last time I was there (about a month ago) and got this result for Drivers: "Advanced Micro Devices processor software update released on December 17 2002". Win Update says it's for AMD K7 processors.
I've previously gotten all the relevant critical, recommended & driver updates, etc, the last time I did a fresh install (about six months ago) but this driver never showed up before and if it had I would have installed it then. I've no idea why this would show up now, considering the update is older than the last time I did a fresh install and got all the updates.
Maybe WU is detecting my amdk7.sys driver as corrupted and is offering to repair/replace it? There's nothing out-of-the-ordinary reported by Device Manager and my current amdk7.sys driver is dated 01/07/2002 (v5.1.2600.0), so it is older than the one now being offered. It's just odd this update never showed up before... Any ideas? Should I update?

Update... while searching around for something else on my hard drive I came across an updated amdk7.sys driver that I had downloaded from somewhere quite a while back but never installed because I could find no documentation on it at the time.
The updated driver I downloaded is the same version that is now being offered by Windows Update, so it seems the updated driver has been available for some time but has only just recently made it into the Windows Update driver section. That would explain why it never came up before. The new version is dated 17/12/2002 (v5.1.2600.1152). I installed it from Windows Update and didn't have to rollback, system restore, repair install or re-format/re-install, so it seems to be ok

No idea... I haven't found any kind of documentation on it yet. Optimization, bug fix, compatibility fix? - I couldn't say. I installed it from Windows Update and didn't do any before/after benchmarking, but I haven't had any problems either.
