AMD Athlon Xp 2400 T-Bred
I am just wondering if this cpu can be overclocked and is it a decent xp compared to the 2000+ or the 2500 barton, it says it runs at 2 Ghz. Also, what is the multiplier for a 2400? Also I am looking at a athlon xp 2600, but the 266 FSB has a higher price then the athlon xp 2600 333 FSB? Why is that? CAn anyone help on these answers as i am close to buying one or the other????

Can it be OC'ed? Yes, up to 2.2-3ghz. Don't worry about the 266fsb costing more, its not like you would want to get it right?

looking at a 2400 t-bred for a K7VtA3 Rev.8 266/333 FSB MB ECS
want to be able to overclock by using the FSB only since the mother board will only allow that and i am also running pc 2100 512 mg of mosel highperformance ram. so would the 266 athlon 2600 be better then using a 333 athlon xp 2600 due to the ram which i don't plan on buying anytime soon.

You can underclock the FSB on the 333 chip, plus it allows you more upgrade options (if and when you choose).

you could underclock the chip but then the multiplier would only be x133 instead of 166 resulting in a lower clock speed and since a 333fsb is a barton most likley the multiplier would be locked so you wouldn't be able to up that to make up for it

DUH! why did I forget that? we were just discussing it in another thread. Yeah, unless you get an unlocked chip, looks like you should go with the 266 fsb

well, just got off of e-bay a athlon xp 2400 t-bred for 59$ free shipping or 4$ for prioritymail. So i will be setting my system back up with that. I believe it is a 266 FSB so it should work well with my ram and my MB and I hope i can overclock it some with my FSB since that's my only option in the bios for my particular MB.
Sound like a good deal, and do you think it should work well?
thanks

Okay, I got my 2400 T-Bred, have it overclocked to 2.21 Ghz from 2.0Ghz using FSB up from 133 to 147. Now the temps are staying around 37C idle and maybe 40C at load. Is this ok to leave this way, or will it hurt the processor eventually? It is running stable also. I had a 2500 Barton i run the fsb at 200x11 to make it a 3200 and this one is reading a 2700 T-bred under benchmarking and benchmarks right at the athlon 3200. I ran the barton all the time at 3200, but not sure if the T-bred is as sturdy as the Barton and can be kept at this speed constantly. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks |

If you've only bumped up +0.10v or +0.15v you could expect to run for years (I have run in that range on just about every CPU I've ever owned, and have never toasted one yet. This includes everything from Slot-As, TBirds, Paliminos, TBreds, and now two Bartons that I have about 6 months on).
Since I only use air cooling, I do get a little worried if I push vCore up +0.20 or higher, though I know a lot of folks do just that (many with water cooling or Peltier cooling).

i think it is rated at 1.65. Where would I find out the max voltage of the 2400 T-Bred at? i have it now at 2.18 Ghz at 145 Mhz FSB at 1.58-1.60 V with temps at 36C idle to 40C load. I might keep it here for now and see what happens. Also, if my MB goes up to 333 for DDR can i use this cpu (133 FSB rating) with 333 ddr ram or would my ram decrease in speed due to the processor. I am currently using 2 sticks of 256 Mosel HighPerformance DDR pc2100(512) mg which does me fine, but maybe in future might upgrade ram if it would work.
