Food Fast Help Needed...

Ok Guru's I know one of you cats knows the answer to this one...

Here is the skinny...

I have a 20 gig Seagate st320423A Hard drive that I formatted and then fdisked...(a Friend always said FDisk)
then I installed it into a system that is running XP...
all fine it saw the hard drive and I was going to remove some things from it it had two items...I forget offhand what it said But I deleted one of them and now can not access the Drive at all...

So Far I have tried two seperate computer systems...
I Tried to edit the CMOS to auto even tried to manually set them up...
Xp Nor the computer even see the drive...The problem presents itself...I need a way to clone my one drive onto the 20 gig hd I also tried inside XP with no luck...

So with The computer and Op system not seeing this drive what Can I do to Format It and get it up and running...

Thanks to any and all for help. Nice place you have here and I will try to offer a hand if I can... and see if I can pick up a few tricks.

Thanks
Inspect

Finance Opps sorry Guys...

And I used to run V Bulletins...look at me now...

I have five cables I boot with master in place and set drive to slave if I set to primary it gives me boot disk error insert floppy thing...system disk.

I change the drive leaving cable as is and still no go tried that too...any more ideas...

is there a way to access this drive in Just pure dos or to partition the drive set up for fat 32 that is the initial problem Thanks also for the quick replies.

Ok, let me understand a little...

The computer cannot see the harddrive in the BIOS? if thats correct well there can be two causes one of the pins is not making contact with the ribbon cable or the drive is dead...

If BIOS detects the harddrive and windows xp doesnt....... the partitions are screwed....

At Home Ok I just made slight Progress...

I set up the drive again manually and got primary slave drive failure...

the cable is also switched out same thing Xp still doesnt see it....
I think it was when I deleted it...surely there is a trick to format with fat 32 or something I can do to reset it or something...lol

Welcome to TechIMO!!

I'm not sure I fully understand what is going on here all together.

If the drive is showing in the BIOS then you may want to save yourself some time and headaches by running the Hard Drive Diagnostics for Seagate.

I assume you have: right clicked "My Computer" > selected "Manage" and then selected "Disk Management" to see if the drive is showing there?

If it is, you can select the drive and format it from there.

At Home Ok So Far...

I got one of my seagates to install with a complete format Fat32 by loading in XP pro Corp...
The other though does not see the hardrive so at least I can function...I would perfer it was 20 gig instead of 8 but hey I am happy to at least have gotten something back up and running...
Thanks for the help I will keep digging in and see if I can do anything if so I will update this thread for others...
