Welcome to TECHimo Sherrylynn.

Are you now able to get back into Win98?...or has that glitch kept Windows from loading?... if so, have you tried to enter Win98 in safe mode?..if so, did that work.

One big thing that can cause a Fatal exception is bad RAM.. you could possibly have a RAM module going bad.

Another thing you can do if you can get back into Windows is to run its utility called System File Check (go to start > run > and type sfc in the window).. that will run the System File checker and find any bad or missing files you may have... you will need your Win98 install CD to get a new replacement file from if a corrupt or missing operating file is found.

Tell us what you have tried, and anything else about your system...i.e. how much RAM etc. Also, have you made any changes recently?...installed new software?

Have you tried to run any antivirus or trojan software lately?

Thank you for the welcome Bovon.

My husband and son use my computer and I always get the "I didn't delete anything" when the question is asked.
It is possible something was added and deleted without my knowledge.
This error and shut down only happens while using yahoo games or yahoo messenger.
I have 256 MB Ram.
I had Norton and that wasn't working well so I got rid of that awhile ago and am currently using AVG Control Center, no virus', I run a full system scan when I have a problem or pc acting up.
This was happening before I took of Norton and added AVG.
I did run sfc about 2 weeks ago, nothing strange going on there. I ran it again after reading you're post, now there is a page of missing dll files. I am not sure what program they went to. Is there someplace I can go to look them up to find out what program they went to? I did try missing dll files a couple of them were listed but it doesn't tell me what program or programs, I do know that dll's are used in more than one program.
I did run IE6 repair from Add & Remove, it didn't help.
Let me know if there is additonal information that you would need from me, that I didn't already give you.

Thank you

***Good, I would run memtest86 3.1a to be absolutely certain a chip on your RAM module is not going bad. A RAM chip is made up of hundreds of transistors that pass the binary code that we use on hard drives etc. Binary code is nothing more than a string of 1's and 0's...like this: 0000101110000 would mean something when translated from binary to readable language. If a 1 or 0 is locked out by a bad transistor, the data cannot be passed..Windows hangs (usually) because the data is incomplete or missing..and the OS is lost.

After downloading, place a formatted diskette in the A: drive and execute the memtest86 executable..this will execute to the floppy disk and make a boot disk that will run your machine and test the RAM automatically from a boot-start. Let it run all night...about 12 hours. The utility is not a speed demon, but is very thorough.

***Most times (when NAV is a problem..and some versions are) simply uninstalling Norton will not fix it. Too many files left behind along with registry entries. I can't help you there.. I have had to format and start over with Norton problems in the past.

***A whole page?...not too sure I understand or follow you here.. or, is that a figure of speech?...can you do a search for some of the missing DLL's to see if they are actually there somewhere...if you can find them, you can right click the DLL and select properties..in the files properties you can see the application or the name of the company the DLL file belonged to.

I am not sure what program they went to. Is there someplace I can go to look them up to find out what program they went to? I did try missing dll files a couple of them were listed but it doesn't tell me what program or programs, I do know that dll's are used in more than one program.

***As I mentioned above, try a search to locate any of the missing DLLS on your system...let us know what, if anything comes up with the search. I believe there is an application that will ID a DLL...problem is, the DLL has to be available to ID it.

I would also suggest a trojan scan... antivirus utilities do not find trojans I don't believe... some trojans can do 'funny' things with a computer.
