Hosting a Lan Party

Alright, here's the deal. I'm thinking of trying to host a lan party at my university. My university is just small so I'm not going to have a ton of people. Anyways, what do I need to run a lan party? And how hard is it to organize?

Well you will definatly needr enough network equipment to hold every body. Then if you arnt up to the task of networking find some one who is willing to get headaches If you have multiple games (which all lan parties should right?) I would recomend a server a game. But more importantly have each game on its own subnet and seperate the subnets with router(s) This will help keep trafic flowing smothly and hopefully make it run faster Second you need enough Router(s) and Hubs to hold every one. Best luck i have seen there is having people RSVP. Also make sure you can have that much power flowing to you and not overload your circut breakers or anything. Also some spare cable and RJ-45 connections with a crimper isnt a bad idea... then Food Ill try to think of other things. GL

Cascading hubs only works so much... get a big hub/switch if you can... 16 ports would be nice...

I'm pretty sure that the Computing Services department would have some switches laying around. It all depends on whether they'd let me borrow them for a week. Hmmmmm???????

A week? That's a long LAN....

My school let me borrow a bunch of tables...

Yes you need TABLES.... and powerbars.... get people to bring their own powerbars... but have lots of extension cables....

A room full of computers can be quite taxing and may trip the breaker cause the entire room to go "AWWW MAN" and then go onto a billions different stories about what they were just about to do.. lol yes it's happened.. we had to run an extension cord from upsatirs.. the drainw as too much.... 30 computers... lol

And it gets HOT!!!!!

No, no Freaky, I'm just going to see if I can borrow the switches for a week so then I know that I have enough equipment.

I guess if I can't find enough gear I can always scour the city. This is just an idea right now though. I've got another 4 months here, so I should at least have some fun.

By the way, I was thinking of limiting it to around 100 or less people.
