Windows XP Pro Error

Hi,

Brief Explination:
============
I have windows xp pro and encounter the following DLL crash error only hapens 1 in 10 times with Service Pack 1 installed or not.

Once the error hapens , then it always hapens.

Error Description:
============
When right clicking on the desktop to go to the display details. if I click on the DESKTOP tab, i get a crash on a DLL or something like that , if i clikc on the details link, then it shows me something relating to mshtml.dll and then when i click on send the error or dont send the error buttons, then the display settings window dissapears.

Maybe somebody here has also encountered this problem in windows xp pro before?

I have had this problem before even with my older graphics card.
I do not know if this relates to graphics.

Regards

Kids It would help to know everything you have tried

Because I am not sure what you have done already to fix the problem I suggest:

Booting from the WindowsXP cd.

Choose the repair option.

in the command prompt type: chkdsk c: /p /r

You really don't need to /p but I always put it there just in case.

-------------------------------------------

Anyhow this will go around and restore corrupted XP system files with good ones.

--------------------------------------------

It could just be caused by a corrupted file!

I will try that , thanks.

But wait, what do i do first? do i boot with the windows xp cd ?
then what , is there a menu and do i choose repair?

Then what about the chkdsk command? when do i do this?
Because i have just chosen repair? so where do i get a command prompt? what do i do exactly?

"Because I am not sure what you have done already to fix the

I have instaled win xp pro and installed sp1 ; directx 9 ;and divx 5.0.5.

Answer 1: Yes put the XP CD in the cd-rom
Answer 2: yes boot with it (change in your Setup to boot first from cd-rom)
Answer 3: Yes you will see a menu to install xp but choose the option to repair it instead..
Answer 4: This will take you to recovery console where you will be at a command prompt.

Then it will ask for the admin password (if this was never set then leave blank)

press enter..

Now at the command prompt type chkdsk c: /p /r
or chkdsk c: /r

I think the /p is understood if you put /r

anyhow good luck
