2.8B or 2.8C

I was looking into upgrading my processor but I am unsure if I should get the 2.8B or 2.8C.

I have a MSI 845E Max that works on 533 MHz BUS only, I do not have the funds to pay for a new motherboard and a processor. So my question is, will a 2.8C downgrade itself to work on a 533 MHz BUS mobo?

it will either downdrade and run at 1.8 ghz or not work at all....I would save up and get a new motherboard before i baught one...mabey even sell this one on ebay or something

EDIT: Oh shoot...what speed is your memory....if it's less than pc3200 I would go with the B then because you if you don't you will need faster stuff to keep up with th C anyways

I have a nephew who had a similar situation. He emailed intel
and they told him not to underclock the cpu.

Save yourself the headache and get the B version. The C will work on your system, but it won't run at 2.8Ghz. It'll run way slower because your mobo doesn't support 800mhz bus speed.

imo you'd be better off to save up money for a new motherboard and then get either a 2.4ghz or 2.8ghz, 800mhz bus processor. A 2.4C will be better than a 2.8b.
