scandisk problems

Hi

When I'm running scandisk it completes to the end of "phase 2", but then it says "Windows cannot complete disk check". Why is this?

Running WinXP Home.

Have you tried running chkdsk in the recovery console or safe mode?

You say 'scandisk'... are you using FAT32 or NTFS format?..scandisk cannot be used with NTFS...chkdsk is scandisk modified to be used with NTFS.

oh okay..that's all it says, nothing more. And I've got NTFS, not FAT32...so that's probably the problem with scandisk. I ran chkdsk and it fixed some entries...and then I think it stops after verifying indexes...I'll try it in safe mode and see if it works.
