DVD Rom Problem

I am having a problem with a DVD Rom Drive. The problem is, a few weeks, ago, I installed a DVD ripping program, that installed it's own drivers. Doing this caused problems, with the dvd drive. Now I can't play dvd disks. It will play audio cd's, but only in analog format. When I go to control panel, and click on Multimedia, then CD Music, digital playback is grayed out. The Drive I have is a "Mashita DVD Rom SR 8584A".

Problem 2, is I have an external Cd Burner, that since this problem, won't reconize the drive. so now, I can't make a 1 to 1 copy of a cd.

I've tried uninstalling the DVD Ripping program, Reinstalling Windows 98SE, unpluging, and pluging in the DVD Rom Drive, and Updating the ASPI Drivers.

When I check Device Manager, The DVD Rom Drive is listed under the CD Rom. the way it should be, but I am still having the same problem. I forgot to mention the DVD Rom is an OEM device. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance...

Since you reinstalled OS you scraped whatever was causeing it if it was a software/driver issue. If you upon reinstall didnt install that other software it isnt causing it anylonger. This proggy. It wasnt one of those that ripped dvd directly (not put on hdd) then to cd/dvd? If so Id suspect you burned the dvd out. THey cant take constant writing access. Heat up far too much.

Is the dvd burner on its own ch.? Sould be on IDE2 set to master with jumper on back of drive. HDD should be on IDE ch1 set to master (OR CS if a Western Digital).

I reinstalled windows 98SE. The drive, is a DVD Rom by itself, on it's own drive, but after I reinstalled 98, the problem is still there...

one way to find out is to put the dvd on another machine to see what it does.
