First of all, it helps to give a descriptive subject line... more than just "help"

2nd, Welcome to TechIMO

lastly....

Install drive
boot into windows
you need to partition and then format
This is specific to your OS
XP/2K or 9x/ME?

Welcome to TechIMO!

ok, first of all make sure you have the jumpers on the HDD set to slave and set to master on the primary drives

you can partition it if you want but if u just want one 80 gig bulk partition, just format it

you can do it inside windows by clicking on the drive under "My Computer"

if you using win2k/xp right click on my computer, click properties, then disk management. you should see the drive. you will need to partition it and format it

two things you need to check....first..make sure the jumpers are set correctly....if the drive is on the cable with the other drive then you need to set the original drive to "master" and the second drive to "slave"....or set em both to "cs" or "cable select"

Then, you need to go into the bios and set the primary slave to "auto"....or just set all 4 ide drives to "auto"

then it should show up in windows

It's not going to show up in 'My Computer' if there's no partition.

What OS are you using?

You might have better luck just using a 9X or Me bootdisk and FDISK/FORMAT the drive that way.

yes, you just need one big partition....get a winME boot disk from www.bootdisk.com

boot to the boot disk...type in "fdisk" if it asks if you want to use large disk support check "y" for yes

then there SHOULD be 5 options to choose from..the 5th option is to change which drive you are working on

if there are only 4 options then the drive isnt showing up in bios.

so use option 5 and change to the 80g drive.

then you can use option 4 to make sure you are on the right drive by looking and seeing that there r no partitions defined yet. If you see partitions etc you are on the wrong drive..so be careful..you dont want to wipe out the good drive

Then choose the option 1 for "create DOS partition yada yada..."

then again option 1 for "create primary dos partition"

then I think it will ask you if you want to use the maximum size...so say 'yes'

so it will make the partition..then it will tell u to reboot....so reboot and go into windows and you should now see the drive but it wont be formatted....so in my computer you can right click it and format it.
