Kids upgrade HP pavilion with tualatin processor

Hy,

I have a Hp pavilion, with ASUS CUW-AM motherboard and intel celeron 667Mhz (370 socket)

I read in this forum that itīs possible to upgrade this motherboard using a Tualatin processor:

http://www.resellerratings.com/forum...ght=asus+cuwam (CPU Upgrade? Will it work?)

But I canīt understand why its necessary a socket adapter ( FC-PGA to FC-PGA2). I found a FC-PGA tualatin 1,4 Ghz processor, ŋcan I use this?

thankīs
(excus me for my english )

To the best of my knowledge the only Asus boards to support the Tulatin core where boards in the TU series. FC-PGA is not interchangable (different Voltage levels) with FC-PGA2 so you cannot simply perform a CPU swap. I have not seen a socket adapter, so I do not know if it would work. But I do not see why it would not.

Welcome to the forum!

---> I found a FC-PGA tualatin 1,4 Ghz processor

Ok, first of all if it is a Tualatin it is a fcpga2..there is no such thing as a fcpga tualatin.

You need the adapter because fcpga2 chips use different voltages etc..and possibly one or more of the pins have a different function that they did on the fcpga.

The adapters can be had for around $15 http://66.216.68.88/ (look for it listed under "motherboards"..it is the first item under motherboards)

here is the home website http://www.upgradeware.com/index.htm

here is the compatability list http://www.upgradeware.com/english/p...patibility.htm

here is a review http://www17.tomshardware.com/cpu/20020924/index.html

I have my doubts about it since the board is not listed. The CUW-AM is an HP oem board...so it could possibly have some different voltages etc. We have researched this several times before...but I dont think we ever found a definite case where it did work.

I have used the adapter before and it does work...but it may not work on every board...especially if it is not listed.
