Systems Video playback sound issue

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with my sound when playing back a high quality .mkv video file. The sound keeps falling out of sync with the video.

My system specs --> celeron 900 mhz, 400 megs ram, aaand, standard wimpy Intel(R) graphics controller (yeah i'm not even really sure what that means, i searched but couldn't find any other pertinent info on it).

SO - i know my computer is kind of old, but is there any way to correct this sound issue? Maybe there is a player that will allow for lesser playback quality so the computer doesn't have to struggle so much with it? I don't have problems playing back lower quality videos.

btw, the .mkv is about 700 megs for only 45 minutes or so, that's the kind of quality. I would just burn them (it's 1 of 2) to a dvd (I have the .nfo) but alas I don't have a dvd burner. ohh the pain.

Thanks for reading this through!

=====I'm using windows media player classic=====

Well, I have the same problem on a much faster machine:

Windows Media Player 9 (latest version)
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
512 DDR RAM
Windows XP build 2600a

I think it may be the file itself or something, not the player.
