Does XP Pro come with a built-in backup feature? And can it backup to CD? I don't want to archive the entire drive, just a few databases but I want to do them on a scheduled basis.
Thanks in advance

Adam

It has a backup feature, but I don't know about scheduling.

It has scheduling too. To access backup navigate the start menu to accessories -> system tools -> backup

I am not sure if they can be written to cd automatically or not.

It probably uses cd since XP has cd writing built in....if not you can always use something like Roxios "direcr cd" or Nero's "InCd"...using those you actually format a blank cd first and then it just shows up as a D:\ (or whatever) and you can just drag and drop or send files to it like a floppy.

ok I looked it up and saw an article.

http://www.plextor.com/english/support/faqs/SW00012.htm

evidently it can NOT write to a cd unless the cd has been formatted first...the trick being that xp can NOT formt cd's either, lol.....so you have to use Direct Cd or "InCd" to format the cd first...then xp can backup to it.

So I was halfway right

ho here http://labmice.techtarget.com/window...up/default.htm and youll see some articles on msoft backup etc...such as

Search the XP CD for NTBACKUP. There's your usual old (tape) backup program.
