Have you seen the linux firmware offered for the WRT54G? Allows for a LOT more stuff to be done including traffic shaping.

Check it out here
http://slashdot.org/articles/04/02/04/1523227.shtml
Get the firmware here:
http://www.sveasoft.com/modules/phpB...wforum.php?f=6

I use it, and I can honestly say it kicks some serious butt.

Cool!

I'm guessing I can still access everything via Winders?

the only draw back from linksys at this time that the wireless G cards arent yet supported in linux ...

you have to use a wrapper to get the card to work on it at least for the pci version I have....

but surely I love the freedom of moving my system everyplace I want in my home, specially on lan parties...

EvilRick: Yeah you still use the web management interface. It is the same thing just with A LOT more options. You also have the ability to telnetl/ssh to the router and do evrything from the CLI as well.

This actually is a natural extension as that Linksys router is already running a linux kernel inside (Linksys published their source as required by the GPL). It was just taken and updated to add more features that people actually want.

I'm giving it a go now.

Hmm, my router doesn't have a floppy drive. I'm gonna have to mash the BITS up into little . . . bits . . . and just cram them down the CAT5 cable. Hope it works!

Hmm, I've got the firmware, but I don't think I can install it yet because mine is "V2". I did see this . . . "New versions of Sveasoft firmware are available on a subscription basis for $20.00 US per year. This will begin with the upcoming "Satori" release. We expect to release four to six versions of firmware..."
