Help? celeron 333 Mhz
Just got a pc given to me for my daughter, i have formated the HD and installed win xp on a 6 gig HD. I am not sure of the motherboard maker etc. Can't find any info on it. This looks to be a put together PC back a few years ago, no brand name etc. Ok, here is the question, it has a intel Celeron 333 Mhz and its running pc100 ram, it has 3 slots, using two at the moment. one stick shows 64 mg the other doesn't say anything, but shows on boot up around 94 mg? Odd. Okay, how high of mem do you think this system can take and how can i find the info on the mb? I also want to update the video card,it is using a 4 mg card right now by 3d labs Permedia2(chip type) DAC type 3dlabsP2RD. How high could i go with a video card only using pc100 or however high i can take it and a 333 celeron (mounted Horizontaly HSF). Never have seen this setup before.
thanks

I would say memory at max would be 128mb. I used to have an old P1 or less 200mhz that maxed out at 64 so I would say 94-128mb is about it...I think we would have to find out the motherboard specs to find out what kind of card it would take. If u have any extra cards lying around then try them out in there. I have an old pci card that went into my 200mhz but it was I believe after market (didn't come with comp...don't know if mobo had integrated graphics..been too long) so I don't know what it is since my grandpa gave it to me but anyways I still have it here if u want it and u can try it out in there and see if it is any better...

Try using Aida32 to find out as much as you can. It'll have to be installed from Windows.
I would say you could easily run 256MB of PC100 RAM in that thing. What do you mean it's HSF is mounted horizontally? Is it a Slot1 CPU? Does it also have onboard video?

Ok I just went and grabbed it and the VC is a matrox, I don't know size or anything but serial number is CBD60464 Then on barcode a after a gap from first series is 20590-A-00
DP/N 00081992 Rev. A00
That is so u can look for it or something or somebody can so that they can tell you what it is.
Also I have 2 sticks of 32mb SDRAM. I don't know the speed of them but if you want them you can have them...
$15 plus u pay shipping
Tell me if you are interested.

I imagine the processor uses a Slot 1 interface. I've a P2 333 and Celeron 433 that both use the same format.

i will try and check for model # on the board tonight, but here is some info...
CPU Type= Intel Celeron-A, 333 MHz(5X67) SLOT 1
MB chipset Intel82440LX/EX
AGP apeture size 64MB supports 1X 2X...(that sucks)
FSB for MB= Intel GTL+
real clock 67 MHz
Bandwidth = MB/s
bus type =sdr sdram
motherboard name "unknown"
BIOS Type= AMI, American Megatrends Inc. (needs updated) 1995
Video Bios 12/30/98 (needs updated)
reason for post is i don't deal with intel very much, i have been using AMD for years now and this is new to me..Thanks for the replys, keep them comming...would like to get at least 128 mg ram in this for windows to operate correctly, have one 32 mg and one 64 mg in there currently. 3 slots avaliable to use. Can i use pc133 sdram...wish i could give more info...sry, using the program you linked "EVIL RICK" pretty neat, thanks.

256 MB PC 66/100/133 should work, but you need to find out who manufactured the board first to make sure. The LX chipset was maxed at a 66 MHz FSB (unless the MB manufacturer added higher FSBs for overclocking (i.e. Abit)). Anyhow, pop the cover off the computer and see if you can get a model number or name off the MB. I would be able to tell you exactly what memory you would need then. Some old LX boards do not like the PC100 or PC133 sticks.
