PS2 mod-chip probs

I have an Import game that I want to play on my PS2.

I just ordered and recieved a Magic V mod-chip for my machine.

Opened up the PS2, only to realize that some1 had already installed a Magic 3.6 chip. It was kinda` wierd, cause the PS2 didn`t recognize anything other than American CDs. No big deal, I uninstalled the chip, then put in the new one.

Put the thing back together, and now the whole PS2 doesn`t work.

What could be going on here?

Why is this in the community??
I'm leaving this here in tech support.
I'm probably splitting a hair or two. If the other mods disagree I will go with them.

But this is a question about what did he do wrong when he reassembled his PS2.
Let's treat it as a more generic question.

I understand your concerns about the mod-chip idea. But rest assured that I do NOT condone duplicated copyrighted material.

My issue is with a game that I have, legit mind you, purchased while I'm over here in Japan. I didn't want to have to shell out the money for a whole new PS2 unit.

But now it's busted, so it seems.

Any1 know of a place that might already sell modded PS2s that don't have a specific region they're affiliated with?

I do not know about the PS2, but I remember there being mod-chips for the PS1 that only unlocked region. In other words, pirating was not an issue. This chip only allowed US/Japan users to play Japan/US games. Which is no different than unlocking the region encoding on a DVD-Rom (provided we can still talk about that). The problem with the chip was user-ignorance... for one reason or another some people believed that the chip tranlsated the games into English as well

As far as where to buy a REGION-FREE PS2 NOT a PS2 that allows pirated games to be played (I know you said this, but I don't want to get banned/post removed over this.) Places that import Japan PS2 games usually have solutions for you.

Thanks for the n-fo Banti.

Went to a web-site, and ordered a pre-modded PS2 with the specs that were suggested.

It states that they're all individually tested for 36 hours, so it sounds like a good deal...

Guess the old PS2 will just have to be a learning experience.
